  1. Colonization was measured as colonization frequency by plating spine segments on Hagem media plates at 28 °C for 7 days and counted the number of segments with endophytic colonies. About 90% of the segments were colonized by the 9 strains of endophytes, whereas 38% was colonized by FH1
