Detection of Wolbachia in Glossina group females and males via combined PCR-hybridization (blot-PCR). a wsp-PCR before hybridization only detects high-titer wGmm and wGmc (♀, ♂ for both). b Hybridization with a digoxygenin-labeled wsp-probe detects Wolbachia in G. p. gambiensis females. G. swynnertoni females and males are also positive for Wolbachia upon hybridization, and even the Wolbachia-uninfected G. fuscipes shows a slight band after hybridization, suggesting potential presence of an ultra low-titer infection (♀). Negative controls are Wolbachia-uninfected Drosophila simulans, NouméaTC (Dsimminus) and non-template control (NTC).
