Colonization of BALB/c-ByJ mice by C. jejuni strains. The abilities of strains 81–176 (black circles), 81–176cj0596 (red squares), 81–176cj0596+ (blue triangles) to colonize BALB/c-ByJ mice alone (A) and in competition (81–176 [black circles], 81–176cj0596 [red squares]) (B) were measured. Mice were fed 1 × 109 CFU of each strain, or a mixture of 81–176 and 81–176cj0596 (5 × 108 CFU each) by oral gavage. Colonization levels were measured by enumeration of bacteria present in fecal pellets on days 7, 14, 21, 28, and 35 post-inoculation.
