TIGR4ΔhemK was made by insertion-deletion mutagenesis with an erythromycin cassette, while the other mutants contain in-frame stop codons (underlined) in the very beginning of the target genes. Alterations are shown in bold and the subscripts indicate the nucleotide number of the first alteration in each gene.
