A visual comparison of pigments secreted into the medium by strains of S. nodorum when grown in the dark, compared to those grown under a 12 hour white light cycle. Discolouration of the medium is dramatically intensified in cultures of S. nodorum wild-type SN15 when exposed to light; less so for mutant strains gba1-6 and gga1-25; with little change between the light and dark cultured gna1-35 mutant.
