Single gene deletions of dsbA, dsbB, dsbC, dsbD, dsbG and ccmG were constructed in E. coli MG1655, and cadBA expression was monitored in the corresponding mutants by determination of CadA activity. Cells were cultivated under microaerobic conditions in minimal medium at pH 5.8 or pH 7.6 in the presence of 10 mM lysine. The specific CadA activity was determined [44] and is given in μmol/(min*mg protein).
